WoW Midnight: Every Class and Specialization Ranked

February 20, 202622 min read
wow midnightspec rankingall classestier list

This is the big one — every single class and specialization in World of Warcraft: Midnight, ranked and evaluated. We cover 13 classes, 39 specs, and four content types: Mythic+ dungeons, raiding, PvP, and solo play.

A critical disclaimer before we start: WoW balance changes frequently. These rankings reflect the current state of Midnight, but they will shift with patches. More importantly, player skill matters far more than class choice for 99% of the playerbase. A skilled player on a "C tier" spec will outperform an average player on an "S tier" spec every time.

Choose the class you enjoy. Use these rankings as a tiebreaker, not a deciding factor.

How We Rank

Each spec receives a rating across four categories:

  • Mythic+ — Performance in timed dungeon content (AoE, utility, survivability)
  • Raiding — Performance in boss encounters (single target, raid utility, consistency)
  • PvP — Effectiveness in arenas and battlegrounds
  • Solo Play — Comfort in open world, Delves, and old content

Ratings use a simple scale: S (exceptional) → A (strong) → B (good) → C (viable but weaker)

Death Knight

Blood (Tank)

Blood Death Knight is the ultimate self-sustain tank. Death Strike heals you for a significant portion of recent damage taken, making Blood DK stronger the more damage it takes — counterintuitive but incredibly effective. The class shines in content where healers are stretched thin.

Content Rating Notes
Mythic+ A Strong self-healing, great in higher keys where damage is intense. Grip is unique utility.
Raiding B Solid but less proactive mitigation than other tanks. Excels on high-damage bosses.
PvP B Durable in battlegrounds, limited arena presence.
Solo S Among the best solo tanks. Can solo extremely challenging old content.

Frost (Melee DPS)

Frost DK is a burst-oriented melee spec that excels when enemies need to die quickly. Breath of Sindragosa builds require more skill but offer huge AoE potential. The Obliterate build is simpler and still effective.

Content Rating Notes
Mythic+ A Strong burst AoE with Breath of Sindragosa. Good cleave on 2-4 targets.
Raiding B Decent single target, good on cleave fights. Less consistent than some melee.
PvP A Chains of Ice slow, strong burst with Pillar of Frost, decent survivability.
Solo A Death Strike self-healing even as DPS. Strong and durable.

Unholy (Melee DPS)

Unholy commands an army of the dead. The spec has excellent sustained AoE through diseases and ghouls, a permanent pet ghoul, and strong burst with Army of the Dead and Dark Transformation.

Content Rating Notes
Mythic+ A Excellent sustained AoE, strong in big pulls. Army of the Dead for burst.
Raiding A Strong and consistent. Scales well with targets. Good raid utility with Anti-Magic Zone.
PvP B Pet can be killed/controlled. Less burst than Frost. Necrotic Strike is niche but powerful.
Solo A Permanent pet ghoul helps with tanking. Death Strike for self-healing.

Demon Hunter

Havoc (Melee DPS)

Havoc is all about speed and AoE. The simplest rotation in the game combined with unmatched mobility makes Havoc incredibly fun and accessible. Eye Beam and Blade Dance provide excellent AoE, and the Chaos Brand debuff (5% magic damage increase) is highly valued in groups.

Content Rating Notes
Mythic+ S Top-tier AoE, Chaos Brand buff, incredible mobility for mechanics.
Raiding B Average single-target. Valued for Chaos Brand debuff.
PvP A Mobile, bursty, hard to lock down. Mana Rift disrupts healers.
Solo B Soul Fragment healing, good defensives, incredibly mobile.

Vengeance (Tank)

Vengeance is a highly mobile tank with strong AoE threat and self-healing through Soul Fragments. The spec excels in dungeon content where its AoE and mobility shine.

Content Rating Notes
Mythic+ S AoE threat, sigils for utility, high mobility between pulls.
Raiding B Functional but less mitigation toolkit than other tanks.
PvP B Durable in battlegrounds, niche in arena.
Solo A Strong self-healing, excellent AoE for open world.

Feral (Melee DPS)

Feral is the cat-form melee DPS. It's a bleed-based spec that rewards good planning — you apply bleeds, manage combo points, and maintain your damage-over-time effects. One of the higher skill-cap specs in the game.

Content Rating Notes
Mythic+ B Good single-target, AoE improved but still not top-tier.
Raiding A Excellent sustained single target when played well. Battle res and Innervate utility.
PvP A Stealth opener, strong burst, incredible mobility and survivability with Bear Form.
Solo A Stealth, self-healing, Bear Form, Travel Form. Excellent all-around.

Raiding B Very survivable. Good choice for progression content.
PvP C Functional flag carrier but limited compared to other tanks in PvP.
